Mindfulness is incredibly valuable because it allows us a moment of distance from our thoughts so we can catch ourselves in an unproductive train of thought before we lock onto it and take it down the path where all trains go: derailment!
We can use mindfulness as a tool for personal growth because being mindful gives us space between our thoughts so that we can think about how we want those thoughts to run through our head instead of letting them just happen.

Step 2: Do things you’re afraid of
The second step to developing a brilliant mindset is to do things you’re afraid of.
Fear shouldn’t hold you back from doing the things that will make you happier and more successful in life. If there’s something you’ve been hesitant to try, don’t give into fear; just go for it!
Here are some examples of things people might be afraid of:
- Speaking up at work or talking to other people
- Starting a new hobby or learning something new
- Trying new foods or traveling somewhere unfamiliar

Give them time to think about their answer and give them space so they can come up with an answer that feels right for their own situation and timeline instead of judging them or pressuring them into answering quickly just because “you” want the answer now.
- Do not be impatient! Don’t be in a hurry either; there is no need when we have all the time in the world available at our disposal today due to modern technologies like computers which allow us access 24/7 without having any limits on usage whatsoever (except maybe our own brains).
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something
Let me start by saying that I’m not a psychologist or a professional coach, so this isn’t intended to be a clinical analysis of your mindset. Instead, my goal is to help you develop the tools and habits that will help you have a brilliant mindset.
I’m also going to assume that you have some sort of aspiration in life—whether it’s starting your own business or getting into the best university in the country—and I want to make sure we get on the same page about one thing: You can do whatever you want.
The world may tell you otherwise, but remember: If someone tells you that something is impossible for YOU because YOU aren’t qualified enough yet (or because they think it’s too risky), then don’t listen! If they say that YOUR dream isn’t realistic or won’t work out? Ignore them! Don’t let anyone tell YOU what’s possible and what isn’t based on THEIR opinion alone!
Take care of your body and mind
- Listen to your body. How do you feel? Are you tired, stressed, or physically uncomfortable? If so, take care of yourself!
- Eat well and exercise regularly. The human body was meant to move—don’t sit on the couch all day playing video games and eating junk food.
- Get enough sleep every night. Sleep is when our brains recharge and process all the information we’ve learned during the day—when we don’t get enough sleep, this process breaks down (and so does everything else).
- Take care of your mental health. What are you thinking about right now? Do those thoughts make you feel happy or sad? If they’re negative thoughts that bring up feelings of anxiety or depression, take action by talking with someone who can help guide you through them so they don’t overwhelm you in the future!
Be confident in your abilities
You might feel like you’re not as talented, smart or good-looking as others. And you may be right! But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get better at what you do and be more successful than them. In fact, it probably means the opposite: because not everyone is equally talented, smart or good-looking, there must be room for improvement in many areas of life—including yours!
Just start working on your weaknesses and watch them fade away over time. Remember: everyone has weaknesses! Even Einstein struggled with math early on in life. If he could get past his struggles at school then so can we!
Unplug every now and again
Not only does the digital world have a way of making you feel like you’re always behind on work, but it also increases stress and anxiety levels. A British study from 2017 found that exposure to screens before bed can interfere with your quality of sleep and cause nightmares.
Unplugging every now and again allows you to relax, recharge, and focus on what’s important.
Forget what society tells you is the right thing to do or be. Do it your way!
This may sound like a tall order, but it’s not. There are no right or wrong ways to do this. Just keep in mind that your path is yours alone and what’s important is that you’re happy with it. It doesn’t matter if your friends have their degrees, or if society says you should be married by now—if the path you choose isn’t the one that makes you happy, don’t take it!
We learn from others all the time, but we also need to remember that being inspired by others doesn’t mean we must compare ourselves to them (or anyone else for that matter). Even if some people have more experience than we do when starting out on our own adventure, remember: there’s always room for improvement!
Don’t let anyone tell you what’s possible or impossible for yourself; stay confident in your abilities and know that anything is possible with hard work and dedication! No one will be able to help unless they believe in themselves first—so start believing today!
