Introduction
If you’re like me, you’ve probably asked yourself the question, “What does success look like?” I know that I’ve certainly thought about it. In fact, it’s one of the most common questions we ask ourselves as we go through life. We all want to be successful in some way or another, but many people never take action because they don’t know what success looks like.
It can be difficult to say exactly what “success” means in certain situations because it can mean different things depending on who you are and where you’re at in your life right now. The good news is that success doesn’t have to be complicated! There are simple ways that anybody can achieve happiness and contentment by achieving their goals and reaching their highest potential as human beings (which is truly something special). In this post, we’ll discuss how to define success for yourself so that you can begin working toward achieving your goals today!

What does success look like?
Have you ever asked yourself, “What does success look like?” This is a question that many people ask themselves, but the answer is different for everyone. For each individual, the answer to “What does success look like?” varies greatly, depending on their values and aspirations. Success is a subjective term and it can mean different things to different people. What’s more important than knowing what success means to you personally is knowing how you measure your own progress toward achieving your goals and dreams–because that’s what will keep you going when times get tough.
If we’re honest with ourselves, most of us would admit that money isn’t everything; power isn’t everything; fame isn’t everything either (or maybe even any one thing). We all have core values which inform how we choose our priorities in life: family, friends/community service work/volunteering opportunities etc.

The secret to success is being happy with yourself
It sounds like a cliché, but it’s true. If you’re not happy with yourself and your life as it is now, then there will be no motivation for change. You’ll have no reason to improve your situation or make things better because you’re already content with how things are right now–or at least that’s what your mind believes. But if you want something different from what you have now (and we all do), then those thoughts will only hold back any progress that could be made on improving our lives and reaching our goals.
Achieving success means being able to look back on past experiences and view them as positive ones rather than negative ones: “I did this” instead of “I didn’t do enough.” When we feel good about ourselves after doing something good for another person or ourselves, our confidence grows stronger each time we repeat this process until eventually there comes a day when nothing seems impossible anymore because we’ve seen firsthand how powerful our own potential truly can be!
Feeling happy and healthy
Your success will be defined by the things that you value. For some people, it’s having a family and raising kids; for others, it might be travelling the world or owning a business.
For me personally, success looks like being happy with myself and comfortable in my own skin. It means feeling healthy (mentally and physically) so I can live out my dreams without fear of getting sick or hurt along the way.
Achieving work-life balance
To determine your own definition of success, consider asking yourself, “What does success look like for me in the next five years?”
Work-life balance is the difference between the two. It’s about having a life outside of work, and it’s important for your health and happiness. If you’re not spending time with family and friends, or doing activities that make you feel good, then chances are high that something is out of whack in your life. Here are some tips for achieving this elusive state:
- Make a list of what matters most to you on both sides of the equation–work and personal–and prioritize them according to importance (rather than urgency). Knowing what matters most will help guide decisions when conflicts arise later on down the line!
- Get enough sleep every night so that when Monday rolls around again after weekend shenanigans have been had by all parties involved (including yourself), those pesky Monday blues won’t get in their way either mentally nor physically!
Financial stability
As you strive for financial freedom, it’s important to ask, “What does success look like in terms of my financial goals and quality of life?” Financial stability is a big part of what success means to most people. After all, if you’re not financially stable, it’s difficult to achieve much else in your life.
Financial stability is not the same as wealth or being rich though–it’s more about having a comfortable lifestyle and knowing that your bills will be paid on time each month. You may not have millions in the bank but you don’t need them either!
To achieve financial stability:
- Start small with one goal at a time until you’ve reached them all.
- Set aside some money each month for savings.
- Get a good credit rating by paying off any outstanding debts.
- Get the best deal you can on your home loan and make sure that your mortgage is affordable (see below).
- Save money by reducing your expenses and getting better deals on bills, insurance etc.

Freedom
Freedom is a state of mind. It’s not an achievement or goal, it’s an attitude you adopt when you choose to live your life with passion and purpose.
Freedom is not being able to do anything you want, it’s being able to do anything you need. When we become free from the constraints of other people’s expectations and self-doubt, we can begin making choices that lead us closer to our dreams instead of away from them–and this kind of freedom will never disappear!
Achieving freedom in various aspects of life requires defining what success looks like for you, empowering you to work towards a more liberated and fulfilling existence.
Success begins with the end in mind
Having a clear vision of your goals and objectives is the first step to achieving them. You need to know what success looks like so that you can work towards it.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from my time at university, it’s that having a plan is important! If you don’t have a plan, things will get done but they won’t be as efficient or effective as they could be if you had taken the time beforehand to think about how best to accomplish your task(s). It’s also helpful when setting up goals if they are realistic: don’t set yourself up for disappointment by aiming too high or low–you might end up quitting before reaching either extreme!
Expect to be successful
The first step to achieving your goals is believing that you will.
You have to expect success before it can happen, and this is where most people fall short. They hope for success, but they don’t expect it–and if you don’t expect something in life, chances are good that it won’t happen!
Expectations drive action; they create motivation and focus by giving us a clear vision of what our future could look like if we work hard enough today. If we don’t have an expectation of what we want out of life or out of ourselves, then how do we know which direction to go?
Program yourself for success
You can program yourself for success by setting goals. The first step is to write down your goals, and make sure they’re specific and measurable. For example, “I want to be happy” is not a good goal because it’s too vague; it doesn’t tell you what exactly will make you happy or how much happiness will suffice. But if instead you say something like “I want more time with my family,” then that’s something concrete that can be achieved (or not).
You should also use positive self-talk when setting your goals–for example, saying things like “I’m going to lose 20 pounds by summer!” instead of “I need to lose weight.” Positive self-talk helps keep us motivated throughout our journey toward success!
Finally, remember patience: even though it might seem like a long time between now and when we reach our goal(s), remember that everything happens in its own time!
Take action each day toward your goals
To achieve your goals, you need to take action each day. This is the only way to make progress and see results.
Here are some examples of actions that can be taken:
- Make a plan for what you want to do. For example, if one of your goals is getting fit and healthy, write down all the steps involved in achieving this goal (e.g., go for a run every morning). The more specific you are with your plans and goals, the easier it will be for you to follow through on them!
- Take immediate action on whatever step comes next in your plan after writing it down (i.e., go running). It’s important not just because there’s no point in having an amazing idea if nothing ever happens with it but also because research shows that people who take more small steps toward their larger goals tend not only feel happier but actually end up achieving those dreams faster than those who don’t!
Achieving success requires consistent effort and persistence
You can’t achieve success without taking action. You need to be persistent and consistent in order to achieve your goals. You must also be focused on your goal, because this will help keep you motivated and on track for success.
You need to know what success means to you, then pursue it
Success is not a destination. It’s a journey, and you need to know what success means to you, and then pursue it. Success is a subjective concept, and understanding what does success look like for you is the first step towards a more fulfilled and accomplished life.
It’s essential to understand what success means to you personally, as it allows you to set meaningful goals and pursue them with purpose. By defining what success looks like in different areas of your life, you can create a roadmap towards a more fulfilling and accomplished existence. Remember, success is subjective, and your definition of it may differ from others, but staying true to your values and aspirations will ultimately lead to a more satisfying journey.
You’ll have your own definition of success, but here are some examples of how people define it:
- To be happy with yourself and your life
- To be able to provide for your family or loved ones in any way possible (financially, emotionally)
- To have a career that makes use of your talents and passions
Conclusion
Success is something that we all want and it’s helpful to explore the question, “What does success look like for you?” to guide you in setting achievable objectives.
Success is a state of mind, not just about money or achievement. You can be successful by doing what you love and being happy with your life. If you’re looking for ways to improve yourself and live a better life, then this post may have helped!
